1. Check the locking mechanism
Lock each section of the trekking pole and press down with full force to ensure that it will not break and that the locking system can bear weight.
2. Wear a wristband
Wearing a wristband while hiking can keep you in a comfortable state and swing your cane back and forth. If the wristband will rub your wrist, continue searching. It is best to choose a wristband that is soft and has some elasticity, which can be easily adjusted to the desired level of firmness and is not easy to fall off.
3. Select controller
Mountaineering poles with cork and foam handles are usually the first choice for hikers whose palms are prone to sweating or who frequently hike in rainy weather, because these materials have good friction even when wet. The handle made of materials such as rubber and plastic may be slippery when wet and may not feel particularly good, but it is durable and has good strength. If your palms are prone to sweating, avoid using plastic grips as they can easily slide out of your palms like wet fish. A cane made of cork or foam is best to grip. In cold weather, foam handles feel warmer than those made of cork, plastic, wood, or rubber.
4. Select Material
Aluminum alloy hiking poles are sturdy, lightweight, and inexpensive, and most manufacturers use aluminum alloy materials. If you have high quality requirements, you can choose the lighter new cane made of carbon fiber or titanium alloy. Carbon fiber is as strong as aluminum alloy, but lighter in weight and more expensive in price. Titanium alloy is lighter, but more expensive. The diameter of hiking poles made of carbon fiber and titanium alloy is relatively small, giving people a feeling of lightness. When using them, you can quickly swing them and easily place the tip of the pole in a suitable position.
5. Select the number of sections
Firstly, choose based on the intensity of the activity, the more cane sections there are, the lower the corresponding load-bearing capacity. When it comes to leisure activities, the most prominent feature is the convenience of carrying, so a four link cane is preferred. When the activity has a certain intensity, a three link cane is chosen to ensure safety.
